Project Detail
SHIPPING AND RECEIVING FACILITY
NATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY LABORATORY
Golden, Colorado

Program: The Shipping and Receiving Facility serves as the NREL Campus' center for materials and equipment handling. Approximately 11,000 G.S.F. of the building is devoted to receiving bulk materials. The mezzanine area is utilized for related office functions.

The site for the Shipping and Receiving Facility is on the south side of South Table Mountain . Because of this constraint, a “sawtooth” dock design was implemented to facilitate truck maneuvering.

The facility was designed to meet or exceed ASHRAE 90.1, 1989. Aspects of sustainable design included comprehensive daylighting for the office area, energy performance analysis using DOE 2.1E, gas-fired air handler, warehouse space heating with gas-fired, infrared, radiant tube heating and Xeriscape landscaping techniques using native plant materials.
