BEN NIGHTHORSE CAMPBELL CANCER REHABILITATION INSTITUTE
UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN COLORADO
GREELEY, COLORADO

Program: The University of Northern Colorado at Greeley selected The Abo Group (formerly Abo Copeland Architecture, Inc.) to design the one-of-a-kind Cancer Rehabilitation Institute. This new facility will house the first comprehensive program for cancer rehabilitation research, therapy and education in the world. RMCRI provides individualized prescriptive exercise interventions for recovering cancer patients.

The design of this new facility complements the surrounding architectural Tudor tradition so important to UNC’s “personality of place” and provides a “human scale” facility to ensure the nurturing environment needed by patients who are on chemo therapy while using the facility’s services.

The facility includes examination rooms, physical therapy and exercise assessment spaces, hydro-therapy space, diet preparation and analysis rooms,
medical staff offices, administrative offices, waiting rooms, and staff areas for reception and clerical tasks. There will be significant classroom space for educational activities among staff and between staff and patient. Construction is underway for this new building which is located on the historic central campus. The building is scheduled for completion in 2003.

RMCRI’s state-of-the-art program was featured by Tom Brokaw on NBC Nightly News in April, 2000.
