Project Detail
DIA TELECOMMUNICATIONS/QWEST CENTER
CITY AND COUNTY OF DENVER
Denver International Airport

Program: Obviously a key component of the on-going operations at DIA, the Telecommunications and Qwest facilities were scattered among numerous locations in the Terminal and the Airport Office Building. This dispersal of staff and equipment had a serious impact on management efficiency, communications, and coordination. To remedy this problem, the decision was made to consolidate these facilities into one location in space controlled by the airport – space specifically remodeled for these new uses on both the Concourse Level and Mezzanine Level of the Central Core of Concourse A.

The Abo Group led a multi-disciplinary team of consultants in the space planning, interior design, and fit-out of these spaces. At the Concourse Level, new office facilities were established for the DIA Telecommunications and Qwest personnel. These office areas utilize both closed and office-landscaped office layouts and provide for a full range of office support facilities – conference facilities, copy/print centers, team work areas, a new reception area, a new break/kitchen area, etc. At the Mezzanine Level, The Abo Group's team helped tie the relocation of an existing computer center into a new Network Operations Center (NOV) with related office and support spaces. The NOC, a custom-designed, high-tech control center, has become the heart of telecommunications operations for the entire airport.
